The Lungau - a hiking adventure region
In the Lungau the walks are a very special pleasure. Hikers can breath deeply in the fresh mountain air between 1000 and 2400 metres here in the south of the Salzburg province and simply leave everyday life behind. You can discover diverse alpine meadows, fascinating peaks, distant forests and more than 60 crystal-clear mountain lakes- green-blue-silver sparkling "eyes" in the Niedere Tauern and the Nock Mountains. Comfortable cable cars at Katschberg, at Großeck-Speiereck and in Obertauern and valley buses in Lungau time ease the arrival and ascent.
Traditional huts and hearty snacks
An extensive, understandably excellent network of footpaths winds through the Lungau mountains to more than 60 traditionally managed hut, alpine meadows and country cafes. They offer shelter to weary hikers.

The right way for every type of hiker
Pleasure-oriented hikers are in the valley - such as along the Mur - on their way or enjoying the distant views in the Salzburg Alpine scenery on moderate ascending and descending Alpine paths. They like to use effort saving mountain railways and the valley buses.
Hiking adventurers prefer theme paths (e.g. the Ramingstein ore trail),nature trails (e.g. the Prebersee marsh trail) or cultural trails (e.g. the famous Arnoweg) or trekking tours with luggage transport. Our experienced mountain sport guides offer exciting and entertaining tours.
Summiteers can face many challenges between Katschberg and Obertauern and delight in heights of 2,400 metres of alpine panoramas and a magnificent distant view extending to Grossglockner.
